The man with the sick son was honest with Jesus.
Mark 9:23-24
23 Jesus said to him, “If you can believe, all things are possible to him
who believes.”
24 Immediately the father of the child cried out and said with tears, “Lord, I believe; help my unbelief!” (NKJV).
2. Is there such a thing as dishonest faith?
a. In KJV: “feigned”
1) Definition: molded or manufactured; artificial, fictitious or false
2) “Unfeigned” – definition: not manufactured, not artificial, fictitious or false
b. In modern vernacular: “sincere, genuine; not phony or fake; not a fantasy or delusion”
3. Paul spoke of this kind of faith to Timothy
a. “Sincere faith”
1 Timothy 1:5 – Now the purpose of the commandment is love from a pure heart, from a good conscience, and from sincere faith (NKJV).
b. “Genuine faith”
2 Timothy 1:5 – when I call to remembrance the genuine faith that is in you, which dwelt first in your grandmother Lois and your mother Eunice, and I am persuaded is in you also (NKJV).
4. Jesus said we would receive according to our faith.
Matthew 9:27-30a
27 When Jesus departed from there, two blind men followed Him, crying out
and saying, “Son of David, have mercy on us!”
28 And when He had come into the house, the blind men came to Him. And Jesus said to them, “Do you believe that I am able to do this?” They said to Him, “Yes, Lord.”
29 Then He touched their eyes, saying, “According to your faith let it be to you.”
30 And their eyes were opened (NKJV).
5. When we are honest with where our faith is, Jesus meets us at the point of our need.
Mark 9:27 – But Jesus took him by the hand and lifted him up, and he arose (NKJV).
Take us by the hand, Jesus, and lift us up!
